The local government of Ferrol presented this morning to the municipal groups during the informative commission on Social Welfare, Equality, Women, Youth and Historical Heritage, the proposal for the bases for municipal aid for schooling and dining room scholarships for the next school year. The Councilor for Social Welfare, Eva Martínez Montero, announced that the main novelty compared to previous years is that vulnerable families in the city’s concerted centers will also be able to benefit from these municipal aid for breakfast service. Until now, said aid was aimed at covering the lunch of vulnerable families in all centers – public and concerted – and breakfast in the public ones, and the local government’s proposal includes that these aids also reach the breakfast service of the concerted . Martínez Montero recalled that to benefit from them, families must meet the requirements established in the bases.
This very morning, the councilor responsible for the Social Welfare area met with Patricia Pérez Marín, president of the Federation of Ampas de Ferrol and the ‘Concepción Arenal’ region, who thanked the local government for collecting their contributions and expanding the scope of the municipal aid to the breakfast service of the concerted. Martínez Montero, for his part, explained that for the drafting of the bases the contributions made in commission were also taken into account.
Initiatives to raise awareness of the elderly
The councilor responsible for the area of Social Welfare also gave an account during today’s commission of new activities aimed at the elderly in the city. In this case, and in collaboration with the State Confederation of Active Senior Citizens (Confemac), on April 28, at 11 a.m., a talk to raise awareness about the rights and resources of the elderly for which the registration period is now open through the Municipal Registry. There will be groups of between 10 and 15 older people and the goal, said the mayor, is that “It is the older people themselves who know, manage, control and exercise their rights in the first person”. Three awareness campaigns related to the elderly will also be held. June 15 will be World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, September 21 will be Alzheimer’s Day, and October 1 will be Elderly People’s Day.
