From May 2 to 6, Mexico Week is celebrated in the city of Chicago, Illinois, United States of America, with the purpose of promoting and exalting the rich culture, gastronomy, customs and traditions of the beautiful State of Tlaxcala.
As part of the activities that locals and visitors will have the opportunity to live gourmet experiences, where will taste dishes of Mexican cuisine and there will be different guest exhibitions such as “Images of Mexico”, “The Wings of Mexico” Y “The Fridas”; so the attendees Daley Plaza They will be able to enjoy and learn part of the Tlaxcalan culture and traditions through the creation of two monumental multicolored Huamantla rugs made of marble stones, which will be made by artisans who come from the “Magic Town” of Huamantla.
The opening ceremony, held on May 3, was attended by Reyna Torres Mendivil, Consul General of Mexico in Chicago, Alma Anaya, Cook County Commissioner, Toni Preckwinkle, President of the Board of County Commissioners of Cook, and Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Secretary of Tourism of the State of Tlaxcala, who spoke the following words:
“I am very happy and deeply moved to to be able to represent my state and my country, and bring you a little piece of my state. Today is a historic day for Mexico and Tlaxcala, for the first time Huamantla Pueblo Mágico, has a presence in this wonderful city, where citizens can enjoy and discover the “Ephemeral art”; As we know it, this is a small representation of “The Night Where No One Sleeps”; a celebration that takes place on August 14 where all the artisans and citizens of the Magical Town of Huamantla participate in creating these incredible carpets with a length of 6 kilometers, Believe me it is a once in a lifetime experience.
Likewise, you will be able to appreciate the different cultural, archaeological, historical, gastronomic and natural attractions offered by the beautiful state of Tlaxcala, in the photographic exhibition located at the Mexican Consulate General in Chicago.
