Is eating only salad bad for you? here’s the whole truth

Is eating only salad bad? It’s not so much the salad that is bad, it’s just that we fail to absorb other important nutrients. Salad is a healthy and wholesome food and can be eaten every day. It can’t be eaten on its own, though! Because in our diet we need to ingest macro and micronutrients.

Macronutrients are those that provide carbohydrates, proteins and fats while micronutrients are mostly vitamins and minerals. Carbohydrates are found on pasta, bread, cereals and potatoes, proteins are divided into vegetables and animals and are found in legumes, meat and fish. Fats are found mixed with proteins and can be good or bad. The bad ones raise blood cholesterol levels.

Micronutrients are found mainly in fresh fruit and vegetables and provide us with the minerals and vitamins that act as agents for every function of the body to be performed flawlessly. Therefore, a balanced diet allows our body to carry out all these complex steps without creating a hitch. Diseases appear if hitches are created.

Is eating only salad bad?

The salad is rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber. The fibers facilitate the transport of food in the intestine and stimulate the expulsion of waste. It also contains a good amount of water necessary for the body to hydrate itself. In fact, doctors recommend drinking one and a half liters of water a day to keep the body’s water levels under control.

Therefore, thanks to the salad we supply ourselves with micronutrients. What about macronutrients? The salad does not give them to us so we have to take them with the consumption of other foods. In this sense, the salad “can be bad” because it does not provide all the ingredients we need. We also need fats and carbohydrates, despite being so cursed by nutritionists, because once broken down they turn into energy.

So, there is only one thing left to do: prepare a great salad so as to ingest everything we need. This is the quickest and most effective solution to follow a balanced diet and be able to eat as much salad as we want. The salad can be made with various ingredients but you have to be careful not to overdo it.

Ideas for making salads

Salads are a healthy food compromise but sometimes they end up getting more caloric than a plate of pasta. Because? Because we start pouring everything we have in the fridge into the salad bowl. We add cheese, tuna, pickles, olives, egg, meat and corn kernels.

Even the seasoning risks being too elaborate when we decorate the vegetables with sauces. Therefore we must be careful. We put only one type of protein to which we will add small pieces of bread or a small loaf. We dress the salad with a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, preferably cold pressed, and add some spices. Turmeric combined with pepper gives anti-inflammatory and antibacterial powers that preserve our immune system. Finally, we can eat a fruit or cut green apples into thin slices inside the salad.
