Who is Hugo Ortega?

Hugo Ortega is the executive chef and owner of H Town Restaurant Group. He moved to the United States at the age of 17 to try his luck in industry after learning the culinary skills and taste of his mother and grandmother, both experts in the preparation of lunar.

He came to Houston to work as a dishwasher and busboy at street cafe at the time he graduated from culinary school.

Along with his wife, Tracy Vaught, Hugo became the executive chef and owner of Backstreet Cafe. His success was followed by the openings of by hugo, snail, Cross and TOWNas well as the release of two cookbooks: The street food of Mexico by Hugo Ortega and Backstreet Kitchen: Seasonal Recipes from Our Neighborhood Cafe. Later he became the first Mexican chef to obtain the James Beard Award.

Who is Ruben Ortega?

Specialist in sweet tamalesandwiches chocolate and other pastry delights, Reuben Ortega has obtained a privileged place in the food industry in houston thanks to his talent and effort over the years.

Like his brother, he grew up in Mexico and Puebla, he obtained his knowledge thanks to the teachings of his aunt who was dedicated to cake shop.

When he turned 17, he traveled to California in search of the American dream and then moved to Texas to work with Hugo.

He is a graduate of Culinary Arts Program on Houston Community College and first place winner in the 1993 State Cooking Contest of the Culinary Federation of Texas.

Among his distinctions, the title of Pastry Chef of the Year in the Tastemaker Awards and in the Houston Culinary Awards.

Although he has stood out on his own merit, he has also collaborated with his brother to increase his success and consolidate his talent by working on his cookbooks.
