A blind breakfast, accessibility, guide dogs and a Circuit of the Senses, among the activities of ONCE Week

From May 23 to 29, in Teruel

Teruel, Monday, May 23, 2022.- A blind breakfast, an accessibility day, an exhibition of guide dogs, a work table of the Association of Users of Guide Dogs, a circuit of the senses, an exhibition of adapted material and a sports exhibition are the activities that make up the ONCE Week in Aragon, which will be held from May 23 to 29 in the city of Teruel.

These activities have been presented by Ramón Fuertes, first deputy mayor of the Teruel City Council, José Luis Catalán, president of the Territorial Council of ONCE in Aragón, Raquel Pérez, Territorial delegate of ONCE in Aragón, and Pilar Calvo Gómez, director of the ONCE Administrative Agency in Teruel, during a press conference held this morning at the Hotel Palacio la Marquesa.

After the press conference, a blind breakfast was held. The first Deputy Mayor and the rest of the guests have put on masks and have experienced the difficulties that a blind person or person with low vision has, in such a daily activity as breakfast, something that has been achieved with a few brief technical instructions.

The ONCE Week in Aragon consists of an extensive program of activities, aimed at raising public awareness of the needs of blind or visually impaired people.

On Tuesday, May 24, in the Assembly Hall of the Casa Blanca Building, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., an Accessibility Conference will be held, organized by Fundación ONCE and taught by Technicians on Universal Accessibility. The theme to be developed will be ‘Analyzing and thinking about the accessibility of our towns and cities’.

Wednesday, May 25, in the Plaza de la Glorieta, in passes from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., there will be a guide dog exhibition, organized by the ONCE Guide Dog Foundation ( FOPG). With it, the importance of the work carried out by this Foundation will be transmitted, as well as some of the difficulties detected by guide dog users in their daily lives.

On the same day, at the headquarters of the Administrative Agency of Teruel, there will be a Work Table of the Association of Users of Guide Dogs of Aragon with managers of different groups, to whom they will transmit their problems and needs on a day-to-day basis.

Thursday, May 26 and Friday, May 27, in the Ballroom of the Casino de Teruel, and in the morning, a Circuit of the Senses will be installed, in which visitors, provided with a mask, will put themselves in the shoes of a person blind to try to identify different perceptual sensations. Also, typhlotechnical and educational material will be exhibited that facilitates the autonomy of people affiliated with ONCE.

Sport also has a place in this ONCE Week in Aragón 2022. Thus, on Saturday, May 28, a sports exhibition will be held, between the ONCE Aragón teams and athletes from Teruel, with simulation masks.

On Sunday, May 29, ONCE members will enjoy a guided tour of the most emblematic places in Teruel and, in addition, the ONCE Rondalla Cesaraugusta will perform in the Courtyard of the Episcopal Palace

As a finishing touch, there will be a fellowship meal that will bring together members, ONCE workers and their families, with the presence of the mayor of Teruel, Emma Buj, and the vice president of the ONCE General Council, Imelda Fernández Rodríguez , as well as other local authorities and the ONCE Social Group.
